I joined this community almost by accident. My sister-in-law mentioned a group of farmers meeting at a place near our village, and I went out of curiosity more than hope. I didn't expect much. I had two young children and a husband working elsewhere for wages. We had barely enough land to call a farm. Black turmeric is a really stubborn crop. It takes almost double the patience of yellow turmeric, and for many years, no one wanted to buy it because they didn't understand its value. I almost gave up growing it two times. When Vedamint came to our village and asked in a very specific way about black turmeric, I thought they were mistaken. Before this, nobody wanted it in bulk.

I am the oldest farmer in our Sangusthi now, and young farmers come to me with questions, the same way I once went to my elders. Before this, my small plot barely mattered to any buyer- too little land, too little bargaining power. I sold to whoever offered anything, often below what my harvest was worth. Since partnering with Vedamint, that's changed completely. I get the same fair price as farmers with ten times my land, because they never judged my output by its size.

That stability in terms of price meant I could finally afford schooling for my daughter, without pulling her out during months that were not favourable like before. When she fell seriously ill, and I had to stop working for weeks, my place in the sanghatan was still there when I returned, no penalty, no questions. Today, my land yields better because of the farming methods they trained us in that were very natural. The most beautiful part is that my daughter is healthy and in school full-time. On the other hand, I no longer feel like the smallest voice in the room. Vedamint didn't just buy my turmeric; they gave me work and the secure future of my daughter. This was of real value for me.
